Over here at Gaudiya Vedanta Publications, we are so excited to announce the newest development!
When you click on a book to read it, you will see that it is just like opening a book.
By the mercy of Śrīla Gurudeva, we now have something that will make Śrīla Gurudeva’s books even more accessible to people all over the world. The BhaktiBase mobile application features nearly all of Śrīla Gurudeva’s books, and it works on mobile smartphones, tablets, and more. It was created by Bhagavati Kāntā dāsa of Gokul Bhajan and Vedic Studies, in North Carolina.
Gokul Bhajan is a non-profit organization that is centered around engaging children in devotional activities. It teaches children devotional drama, dance, and songs. Moreover, it gives the children an opportunity to learn about computer programming.
BhaktiBase lists each book in alphabetical order. The books inside this app are the most recent editions of each. When you click on a book to read it, you will see that it is just like opening a book. There is the Table of Contents, which leads you to each chapter. The text of each book is exactly as it appears in its physical counterpart. Diacritics are included, too, as well as an index of verses and a glossary section. In other words, the experience of reading Śrīla Gurudeva’s books on BhaktiBase is much the same as reading your physical copy of the book, simply digitalized.
The books are also visually stunning. Every book listed has an image of its cover next to it. The graphics presented in each digital book are the very same beautiful paintings and images that we are familiar with on the physical books.
There’s more! In addition to having nearly all of Śrīla Gurudeva’s books, the BhaktiBase app allows you to put “bookmarks” into your virtual book. These can save your place as you read, or mark a particular section, sentence, or verse that you want to return to later.
Furthermore, BhaktiBase is even searchable! Just enter your query into the little search box on the top of the left-hand side menu, and BhaktiBase will search every single book for that phrase or word. The search engine is very good for finding terms.
The BhaktiBase side menu also features a section about the books’ authors, such as Śrīla Viśvanātha Cakravartī Ṭhākura, and Śrīla Gurudeva. There are also About sections for GVP and the BhaktiBase app itself.
